"DOPE" Nail Art Pictorial - DIY Nail Art Design

Hi Dolls and Gents,

Just a quick step by step pictorial of my "DOPE" Nail Art Design.

Enjoy!

DOPE - Nail Art Pictorial

Polish nail in a color of your choice - it doesn't have to be black. Be Creative ;)

Use your nail art brush to draw a brick like pattern as seen in the photo.
(If using a lighter background, use black to draw the pattern)

Add caption

Polish/Paint the word "DOPE" or any word that can fit on the nails in upper-case.
Don't be afraid to Express Yourself ;)

Using colors of your choice polish over the letters in no particular style.
(Colorful nails make me happy. lol)

Lastly using black polish/paint outline your letters and add a bit of highlighting effect using your white polish to outline the inside.
(using a lighter shade of the base color can also work)

"DOPE" Pictorial as seen on the above design by Kerly's Artistic Nails.

Tried It?

Don't be afraid to add your own twist and tag me so I can see the various designs you'll created using this pictorial. ;)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Think Pink!

Hey Dolls and Gents,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I've had family members that passed away from this horrible disease called Cancer and it can be upsetting that there is no cure to date.

However, the month of October has been recognized as the month for Breast Cancer Awareness and I love the idea of having your nails done in pink to show your support for the cause.

I've seen so many beautiful nail designs on various sites and wanted to create something different.

I was inspired by the boldness of ladies that had been affected by the disease and lost a breast but was brave enough to tell their story and even posed for magazine shoots.

I must confess thou, while doing this 3d Breast Cancer Awareness Doll I couldn't hold back the tears; overwhelmed by the graphic images and thinking of the pain they felt yet grateful to have life through it all.

What a Blessing.

"Ladies let's worry about the health of our breast and not the size."

Sickle Cell Awareness Month - Inspired Nail Art

Hi dolls and gents,

In the month of September we bring awareness to Sickle Cell Disease.

I never like discussing much about Sickle Cell so many reasons to mention but I've been affected and living with this disease for all my 27 years. I can't begin to describe the pain or the nights I've spent at hospitals but through it all God has been an continues to be my source of strength.

What is Sickle Cell Disease or Sickle Cell Anemia?

I know many people are unaware of SCD and how it affects the lives of persons living with this disease and even their families.

However, Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a serious disorder where the body makes sickle-shaped, or shaped like a crescent red blood cells. These tend to block blood flow which can cause pain and organ damage. To learn more about SCD click the link - Sickle-Cell-Disease-and-Sickle-Cell-Anaemia

I've been following @msnailgasm on Instagranm for some time now and she also has the Sickle Cell Disease and have been sharing that part of her life with her followers; she also requested that as nail technicians we can show our love and support on spreading this awareness by doing Sickle Cell themed nail art designs #NailsForSickleCell which I think was a pretty awesome idea.

I definitely will join seeing that I had previously started working on such a theme and will continue to share other designs in Awareness throughout the month of September.

Let's Talk Nails!

3d Nail Art - Teddy holding a Sickle Shaped red blood cell
I will continue to update you dolls and gents through nail art designs as a means of helping bring awareness as I share this part of my life with you.

Help us make others aware of SCD throughout this Awareness Month and continue to do your research.

Much love to the ladies the showed there love and supported by sharing my post via Instagram

Trinidad and Tobago Independence Nails

Day, August 31st 2014, marks the 52nd Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago from Britain.

Patriotism is usually the expected norm for citizens that take pride in displaying our national colors of Red, White and Black. Why shouldn't we? When we seem to comfortably promote and wear other nations flag all year round. (No pun intended)
I get excited when Trinbagonians (even if for just one day) parade the street in their bold colors, various shades of red, white and black you name it they go all out and for the ladies well I don't think I have to go any further.

Let's Talk Nails!

Not many or should I say only two patriotic ladies requested patriotic nails this season.

As I continued that week and got turned down when asked if they were doing patriotic nails some of the reasons for these ladies lack of patriotic nail talk were "they need to rock those nails until their next appointment" "I want to rock something bright" lol and now I can't blame them but it's a bit disappointing. Don't you think?

Nevertheless, for the ladies I did glam for the occasion here are a few Trinbagonian flavored nail tribute.

In showing love and respect for his craft as he continues to raise our flag high all over the world I attempted a portrait of Soca Artist Ian Anthony Alvarez also known as Bunji Garlin and his Viking logo.

I also shared my Sonic The Hedgehog Trinbago inspired nail art last month in support of our athletes. If you missed that post here's a preview and you can also click the link to view the post.

I later decided to try an all acrylic Fantasy Nail Art to further display some Patriotism in celebrating 52 years of Independence.

The National Motto of Trinidad and Tobago " TOGETHER WE ASPIRE, TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE."

As a nation we have so much going on, if only we would adhere to our motto, our pledge, our national anthem we can and will be a Sweet Sweet T&T!

HAPPY 52nd INDEPENDENCE TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.

Hope you all enjoyed.

Emilio Ramos Inspired Nail Art

The first time I saw Emilio Ramos work on Instagram it was a done deal; I had to try his design on my clients and boy oh boy without a doubt they fell in love as well.

I shared earlier this year my twist of Minnie Mouse inspired by Emilio's Art and if you missed it don't worry here's a link Emilio Ramos - Minnie Mouse Inspired Nails

To be honest I was a bit weary and couldn't sleep one night and decided to go polish some display art. Thinking that would solve my dilemma, I sat by my desk and for the love of God I could not decide what character I wanted to try.

I turned to my Instagram and on looking at my last post which was in fact a design I did on my nails also inspired by Emilio and immediately went searching on his Instagram lol (I'm no lurker thou) upon which I saw a portrait design of himself and said to myself; "maybe I should give this a try".

And you know What? That I did.

To view the pictures I used as my Inspiration you can find Emilio Ramos on Instagram @emilio_ramos

I must admit I was satisfied with the way his portrait came out.

Here's a picture of the inspired Emilio Ramos design I did on my nails

 Hope you all enjoyed.

Sonic The Hedgehog - Trinidad and Tobago Cartoon Nail Art Twist

Hey Dolls and Gents,

Today's cartoon mani inspired by Sonic The Hedgehog as well as the athletes of Trinidad and Tobago that continuously raise our flag high as they push for great results in their ongoing games.

As our Independence celebration 31st August draws near, I'm still working on a fantasy nail art mural to display some T&T Pride but in the meanwhile our athletes have been doing a great job in their track and field championships and I just felt like doing a quick mani and who better than the speedy Sonic.

"Get High, Get Stupid, Get AIDS" - Ad Council Inspired Nail Art

In thinking of a throw back cartoon I decided to have a more serious nail talk with you dolls and gents from this advertisement that would always show while I was watching Sesame Street. (or some other cartoon on local television)

Janine and Barry surely had my interest with their screaming "What About AIDS?"

I sure do remember as a child I did not want to get whatever they were scared of and that mindset has not changed. It's a bit disappointing that they don't show ads like this anymore for today's younger generation and generations to come.

Although there are various mediums that raise awareness to HIV/AIDS I think ads like these should continue at the intermissions of cartoons kids are so addicted to watching.

Hey! Let's get to those pics. Huh!

Bob Marley Nail Art Design

I don't want to wait in vain for your love.

From the very first time I bless my eyes on a silhouette painting of Bob Marley I saw online I knew I had to indulge in yet another tribute design for this positive vibration legend.

If you've missed the previous design I did on my nails you can click this link and have a quick peek Bob Marley Tribute - Inspired Bob Marley Nails

I won't ramble about all my preparation and during the design experience because I actually didn't have such a difficult time doing this nail art mural; I enjoyed the process as I sat by my desk for a few hours while listening a couple of my favorite Bob Marley tunes. I know! I know! I said no rambling.

Here are a few pics of my Bob Marley Inspired Silhouette Nail Art Mural

Hope you all enjoyed this beautiful set as much as I do.

The Abbott and Costello Cartoon Show - Nail Art

Hi Loves!

Hope you all are having a beautiful day. I must apologize for my lack of commitment an not posting as regular as I promised.

I'm having the hardest time thou, completing my list of favorite cartoons; when I think I'm done something happens in my daily life that reminds me of a character or cartoon I forgot to mention; must I add that if you're an 80's or 90's baby like myself we had the most funniest cartoons of all generations. Sorry!! If you don't agree.

Today's Mani feature includes these two funny characters from The Abbott and Costello Cartoon Show. Although for some reason when I see or think of these two I can't help but yell Heeey Abbott!! in my mind the way Costello did.

Here's the ever so timid yet playing brave Abott and Costello inspired cartoon nail art design.

The ever so timid Costello

Kermit The Frog - #ThatsNoneOfMyBusinessThou Nail Art Humor

Charlie Chaplin said and it has been one of my favorite quotes to date "A day without laughter is a day wasted."

Good Morning! It's A Beautiful Day.

Despite your situation choose Joy! Choose to laugh and not cry; unless you're laughing so hard that tears come(s) to your eyes and you cant help but "cry" while you're laughing. HA!HA!

YES!

We've all had those moments when something occurred or someone said something so funny that your tummy ached and despite the pain you can't help but squeeze your tummy while you allowed yourself to enjoy every bit of the joke.

What's all this talking about laughter have to do with the header of today's Mani? You Ask?
Well.. EVERYTHING! hehe!

This past week I've noticed Kermit the Frog has become a popular meme who seems to be enjoying tea, Lipton for that fact and he's quite a "chatter box" ha!ha! as some would say a Snitch and the popular phrase to top his ranting would be "But That's None Of My Business Thou" or as seen all over Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as #thatsnoneofmybusinessthou

I must admit I have seen a couple of hilarious ones and decided to join in on the fun by recreating this for what I'll call today's Mani Laughter. Oscar wasn't quite pleased that Kermit was enjoying the pleasures of being mean and green so he decided to confront Kermit about the matter. ha!ha!

Oscar Approaches Kermit the Frog

Kermit dismisses Oscar with his favorite line "That's None Of My Business Thou." lol

Hand Painted using only Nail Polish

Kermit the Frogs popular meme used

As funny as some of those post may be in the words of Admiral Tibbet "Leave People Business Alone And Mine Your Own." Ha Ha!

Hope you all enjoyed these as much as I did.

Cookie Monster - Sesame Street Nail Art (II)

Hey dolls and gents,

Today's Mani Monday is a recap with a twist. I really don't like doing duplicated designs on clients but this young lady took a trip (over two hours drive) because she fell in love with my last Cookie Monster nail art design.

In our discussion I promised that I would do my best to give her a similar design that she won't regret.

Below is the inspired design followed by the design I did on her nails.

She previously had nails on her hands (square shaped) but wanted them pointed as the previous picture; I shaped the nails using a hand file and did a Mixed Media designed. (3d acrylic sculpted cookies and hand painted nail art using Nail Polish)

Cookie Monster Couple hehe..

I was satisfied with the results and boy oh boy was she just as excited that she even booked her two weeks in advanced appointment. As another long distant client keeps reminding me "the distance doesn't matter wants it's quality work."
I'm truly grateful for the many ladies that go the extra mile to get there nails done and are satisfied.

I trust you all enjoyed this Cookie Monster twist as I did recreating it.

The Flintstones - Cartoon Nail Art Design

Let's take it back today for a bit of transformation Mani and what dedication and believing in your craft can do as an artist.
If you're following me on Instagram I've shared this pic a couple weeks ago but had to blog about it this week because one too many time(s) nail artist ask for the "How to?" without even trying for themselves.

I've never been to art school nor have I taken any nail art courses for all those that have asked or if you were among those afraid to ask and may assume I have. I eat, sleep and talk nail art; let's just say I have a fascination, a tad bit obsession some may say for nail art. Don't judge me. lol

As as artist, only you know what you want to accomplish. KEEP PUSHING yourself until you get the results you're looking for.
I can only speak for myself as I share my journey and progress with you and I must say with all those sleepless nights I let my nails do the talking.

Do not be intimidated or hesitate to try that design you've always wanted but thought it was too hard.
So what?
Even if it's hard the more you practice the better and easier it'll become for you. I guarantee you'll even discover a technique that suits your style.

You can do it too. No Excuses.

Design below done a year ago. (photo on top to date [2014])

Do I need to persuade you into the habit of loving what you do and making every free time you have worth getting a better result?

Here's the rest of the Flintstones Cast all hand painted using Kleancolor Lacquer Nail Polishes and detailing done with my favorite Kiss Nail Art in black and white.

I thank God daily for these hands he's blessed me with and the ability to be creative. I cannot take credit or at least all the credit for the growth you've seen. I do however, believe God has blessed each and every one of us with a gift and then there are many of us with talents also. (don't mix up the two) Both grow in effectiveness with use.

Have a positive attitude when you're at the designing table and just enjoy the process.
